The Oba of Lagos, Rilwanu Aremu Akiolu I, has warned people using his name in the indiscriminate construction of kee klamps and canters on the highways and market places within the Lagos Central Business District to desist from the practice or face the wrath of the law.
The monarch who stated this in a statement issued at the weekend from his palace said some unscrupulous persons have cultivated the habit of constructing shops in Ebute Ero, Apongbon loop and other strategic places in the state to extort money from desperate traders not minding whether they are blocking the roads or not.
The Oba said he had observed for sometime the unwholesome development and wished to put an end to it by alerting the general public.
According to the statement, the monarch affirmed that he strongly believes that such conduct would undoubtedly obstruct free flow of traffic and aid crime and criminality in those areas.
He alerted the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, Director of State Security Service, Mr. Adekunle Ajanaku, as well as the Executive Secretaries of Lagos Island Local Government and Lagos Island Local Council Development Authority to move against the perpetrators of the illegal act.
He also charged the Area Commander, Area A Lion Building and all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) covering Lagos Island to swing into action and clampdown on the perpetrators.
The monarch specifically asked the authorities “to ensure that people involved in the act are brought to book and assist government in ensuring free flow of traffic in the affected areas.’’
The statement added that Oba Akiolu also intends to send out his White Cap Chiefs and others to ensure that sanity is restored on Lagos roads and also quoted Oba Akiolu as saying, “Henceforth, anyone caught using my name to commit this criminal act will face the full wrath of the law.”
