Ambode, Lawmakers Task Fashola on Lagos Development

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode yesterday described his predecessor and Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, as a synergy between Lagos and Federal Government that will accelerate and actualize his administration’s plans for infrastructural development in the state.

Governor Ambode who said this while delivering a keynote address at the Lagos Business School Alumni Conference noted that the State is privileged to have Fashola in charge of key federal ministries at this critical moment in the history of the state.

“We are privileged to have my predecessor in office at the center in charge of Works, Power and Housing. This effectively means we have a synergy between Lagos and the Federal Government to accelerate and actualize our current plans for infrastructural development,” Governor Ambode said.

He added that though building infrastructure to improve the quality of life is a top priority in Lagos, traffic and security remain the two key priority focus areas that need urgent attention.

Speaking at another function, Governor Ambode said he has nothing else to give to humanity than uphold the tenets of good governance.

He said this while speaking as guest lecturer at the Annual Lecture and Award ceremony of The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Alumni Association in Nigeria.

Meantime, some members of the Lagos State House of Assembly yesterday said that the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, SAN, had a lot of hard work to do.

The lawmakers who spoke  in Lagos said that the former governor of Lagos needed to work hard not to disappoint Nigerians and the President.

They expressed confidence in the ability of Fashola, but said that power remained the only problem impeding the development of the country.

Mr Oluyinka Ogundimu (APC- Agege II) said the minister needed to buckle up to address the problem of power which had defied all imaginable solutions.

Mr Abiodun Tobun (APC-Epe I) said that Fashola’s performance as governor of the state said a lot about him as an achiever and actualiser.

Tobun urged the minister not to disappoint the trust reposed on him to transform the power sector and put in place infrastructure.

Also, Mr Setonji David (APC-Badagry II) said the minister was given serious areas where Nigerians are expecting change.

“Power, Works and Housing are very crucial to the happiness of Nigerians who voted for change,” he said.
