2 People Cheat Death In Building Collapse

No fewer than two people yesterday escaped death by the whiskers when a storey building under construction collapsed in Badagry area of Lagos State.

It was gathered that the building located on Olagunju Street, near St. Triumph Primary School, Magbo Bus Stop, collapsed while work was ongoing on site.

General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Michael Akindele, said the building had earlier been marked by the Lagos State Building Control Agency, (LASBCA) for the developers to stop construction.

Akindele said the developer ignored the order and continued working before the building collapsed in the early hours of yesterday.

The LASEMA boss said two construction workers were injured and were treated by officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service, LASAMBUS at the scene of the collapse.

He said, “The building was a storey building under construction and LASBCA had marked the building in order to stop the ongoing construction. However, two construction workers (adult males) at the site were injured and were treated by LASAMBUS officials at the spot.

“Furthermore, the primary school beside the scene of the incident was not affected. Investigation is still ongoing to ascertain the cause of the collapse.”

The Director, Lagos State Fire Services, Rasak Fadipe who also confirmed the incident said two persons were injured in the collapse.
